Letter: You get the government you vote for

I read, watch and listen to all sides of the political spectrum. Life is a matter of perspective.

The letter writer from Oct. 11 (“‘Both sides’ are not the same,” Our Readers’ Views) clearly aligns with progressives. It is logical that someone who is progressive is not going to see other progressives as “extremists.”

I just read “The Progressive Promise.” It’s an expression of socialist ideas, calls for more government and taxes, and represents the agenda of the far-left liberals. I would venture they mostly are not the values of the average American. Yet those progressive values have a large influence on today’s Democrats and our mainstream media. Everyone should read “The Progressive Promise” and see if you think its ideas are “mainstream” and match up with your beliefs.

No matter the amount of hatred for Trump (I don’t like him either), the conservative values are consistent over time: less government, lower taxes and free-market capitalism, to name a few. They embrace the Constitution and democracy. Google “conservative values” if in doubt.

The far right of the Republican Party is indeed far right. But to pretend “The Squad” represents something other than the far left is inaccurate at best. I believe we get the government we vote for.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
