Prep Highlights: River soccer tops Ridgefield in shootout, wraps up 2A GSHL title

After a scoreless regulation and overtime, Columbia River girls soccer edged Ridgefield in penalty kicks to wrap up the Class 2A Greater St. Helens League championship on Tuesday.

The Rapids and Spudders needed extra rounds to decide the shootout before Columbia River prevailed 7-6.

After winning its previous 13 league matches, Columbia River was forced to a shootout of the first time this season. The Rapids (16-0-1 overall) end league play with 41 points.

Ridgefield finished second in the 2A GSHL with 37 points.

Stars of the day

  • Washougal boys golf team, the Panthers won the District 4 tournament at Alderbrook Golf Club near Skokomish, sending all six golfers to the state championships in the spring.
  • Gracie Jacoby, Prairie volleyball, had a team-high 11 kills as the Falcons swept Battle Ground.
  • Jessica Barrett, Seton Catholic girls soccer, had a goal and an assist in a 3-1 win over Columbia-White Salmon.
  • Madisen Newbury and Mikaela Bright, La Center girls soccer, Newbury had four goals and Bright had four assists in a 9-0 win over Castle Rock.
  • Jamie Maas, Washougal girls soccer, had two goals and two assists in a 7-0 win over Hudson’s Bay.
  • Billie Ross, Esther Langeliers, Whitney Martell, La Center volleyball, each had nine kills in a balanced attack as the Wildcats beat Seton Catholic 3-0.
  • Alice Anderson, R.A. Long girls soccer, scored two goals in a 3-0 win over Woodland.
  • Shaylie Haij, King’s Way Christian girls soccer, scored two goals and had an assist in the Knights’ 6-0 win at Stevenson.
  • Macey McCoy, Columbia River volleyball, had 22 assists and three kills in the Rapids’ 3-0 win over Hudson’s Bay.
  • Ellie Mathison and Natalie O’Neil, King’s Way Christian volleyball, both had double-doubles with Mathison’s 18 kills and 11 digs and O’Neil’s 22 assists and 13 digs.
  • Samia Rudd, Stevenson volleyball, had 15 kills and 11 digs in a 3-1 win over Castle Rock.
