State slowpitch softball: Union beat Skyview 12-1 to reach the 4A championship game

For the first time, a Clark County team will play for the state championship in slowpitch softball.

Union beat Skyview 12-1 in the semifinals Friday of the Class 4A state softball tournament in Yakima. The Titans will face Chiawana of Pasco for the title at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Gateway Sports Complex.

Sophia Rickard went 3 for 4 with two doubles and three RBI for Union in the win over Skyview. Ella Berfanger was 2 for 3 with a double and two RBI.

Earlier Friday, Union beat Central Valley of Spokane 9-3. Ella Berfanger went 3 for 3 with a double and three RBI, and Sophia Rickard went 2 for 4 with two RBI for the Titans.

Skyview beat Moses Lake in the first round 11-4. Nivayah Henry went 4 for 4 with a triple and seven RBI, while Abbey Hite was 3 for 3 with a double, triple and two RBI.

Columbia River beat Lake Washington 13-5 in the first round of the 3A/2A tournament, also at Gateway Sports Complex in Yakima. The Rapids then lost to University of Spokane 24-5 in the semifinals. No River details were available.

Evergreen lost in the first round to Mt. Spokane 16-6 in the first round. Savannah McMurtry went 2 for 4 with a double, and Maddy Logan was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Evergreen then beat Juanita of Kirkland 19-15 in a loser-out game. Logan went 4 for 5 with a triple and three RBI, and Ashlyn Wolf went 3 for 4 with a double and four RBI.

River will play the Evergreen at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the third-place semifinal.
