The Vancouver Police Department investigated a threat of gun violence at Fort Vancouver High School Friday following the discovery of “concerning writing” on a bathroom wall Thursday afternoon.

While the investigation continued, the Vancouver Police Department is maintaining a police presence at the school, in addition to extra resource officers from Vancouver Public Schools.

“Our staff and students’ safety is our first and most important priority. We know that any threat of violence is very upsetting, especially in light of recent news,” said Fort Vancouver High School principal Curt Scheidel in an email Friday morning. “We’re continuing to work with law enforcement to determine the credibility of this threat and to implement the best safety plan.”

Families were given the option to withhold their students from attending school Friday.

The investigation into the source and credibility of the threat was still ongoing as of Friday afternoon.
