The last two weeks of utter chaos in the House of Representatives is a shot across the bow for voters in Washington’s 3rd Congressional District.
We cannot elect Joe Kent, a committed election denier and Freedom Caucus acolyte, to add to the House dysfunction. In a world beset with issues like the Ukrainian effort to defend itself and the West from Russian aggression, the ferocious standoff between Israel and Hamas, and an impending government shutdown, we need a moderate voice like Marie Gluesenkamp Perez in Congress, not another member of the “my way … the only way” Republican wing.
Kent’s warm-up press for the primary sounds an awful lot like the guy we rejected in 2022.
After deep-sixing Speaker McCarthy, House Republicans showed themselves unable to select a leader, much less govern and Congress could not pass any urgently needed legislation. We must break the grip of the Freedom Caucus on the nation’s foreign and domestic well-being. We won’t do that with a Joe Kent.
Perez is doing a good job for WA-3. Let’s not gamble with losing WA-3’s moderate voice in Congress.
