Three teenagers were arrested Sunday night after allegedly trying to steal vehicles from an apartment complex parking lot in Salmon Creek.

Clark County sheriff’s deputies responded shortly before 11 p.m. for a report of several people breaking into vehicles in the parking lot of the Pioneer Vista Apartments, 16501 N.E. 15th Ave. Arriving deputies said they found the group in the process of trying to steal a vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office.

The suspects ran from deputies. One teenager was caught and later booked into the Clark County Juvenile Detention Center on allegations of motor vehicle theft, the sheriff’s office said.

Their getaway car, a Hyundai Elantra that was previously reported stolen, sped off and struck two sheriff’s office patrol vehicles and another parked vehicle. A sheriff’s sergeant was also nearly run over, the agency said. There were no reported injuries.

Deputies used tire deflation devices as the Hyundai fled and drove south on 15th Avenue. Deputies chased the Hyundai a short distance before it crashed into a crosswalk pole at the intersection of Northeast 10th Avenue and 139th Street, according to the sheriff’s office.

Two people ran from the crashed car and were captured shortly after. The sheriff’s office said they were taken to an area hospital for medical evaluation.

The passenger, another teenager, was booked into juvenile detention on an allegation of motor vehicle theft. The driver was identified as 18-year-old Xavier Perry. He was booked into the Clark County Jail on suspicion of attempted vehicular assault, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, attempt to elude a police vehicle, reckless driving and resisting arrest.
