Callerame wins after more than 5,000 votes are cast

Joe Callerame of Seton Catholic is The Columbian 2023-24 Week 3 prep football player of the week.

Callerame received 2,300 of the 5,452 votes cast this week to win the honor.

The junior caught six passes for 205 yards and four touchdowns and added a rushing score in the Cougars’ 53-34 win at Life Christian..

Winners of the athlete-of-the-week may not be nominated again during the regular season, and no athlete may be nominated in consecutive weeks.

Here are the accomplishments of the other nominees:

ELIJAH ANDERSEN, WOODLAND: The junior all-around player posted 181 receiving yards, 152 rushing yards and four touchdowns in helping the Beavers win 33-28 at Washougal.

PORTER DRAKE, MOUNTAIN VIEW: The senior running back rushed for 224 yards and 25 carries and scored one touchdown in the Thunder’s 42-27 win over Union.

BEAU HARLAN, CAMAS: The junior rushed for two touchdowns, tallied one interception, one sack and one tackle for loss, helping the Papermakers claim a 21-7 win over Lincoln of Tacoma.

BRAYDEN MALELLA, RIDGEFIELD: The senior quarterback/cornerback had an 85-yard fumble return for a touchdown, a touchdown pass and rushed for 53 yards in the Spudders’ 42-7 win over Hockinson.
