The filmed performance of a hit Broadway production tops the DVD releases for the week of Feb. 6.

“Waitress: The Musical”: Recorded from a 2021 show, this stage version of the 2007 Keri Russell movie about a waitress who sees pie-baking as a road out of her troubles stars Sara Bareilles, who also wrote the music and lyrics.

“With a book by Jessie Nelson adapted from Adrienne Shelly’s film script, ‘Waitress’ has a humanizing matter-of-factness about tropes that other theatrical stories about women often idealize,” writes Los Angeles Times reporter Ashley Lee in a commentary piece. “In the world of ‘Waitress,’ much like our own, not every romantic relationship is an epic love story, and not every pregnancy feels like a miracle. And that’s OK.”
