A 37-year-old man died after he was struck by a vehicle pulling out of a parking lot Sunday in the Van Mall neighborhood, according to the Vancouver Police Department.

The driver was pulling out of the parking lot in the 8100 block of Northeast Parkway Drive to turn east onto Parkway when he struck the pedestrian, according to a news release. Emergency dispatch logs show the crash was reported at 10:18 p.m.

It is unclear if the man was walking on the sidewalk or the side of the road, police said. He was taken to an area hospital where he later died.

The driver, whose name was not released, told police he did not see the pedestrian as he pulled out into the roadway, according to the news release. He remained on scene following the crash. There were no signs of impairment, police said.

The Vancouver Police Department Traffic Unit is investigating the incident, which is the second fatal traffic crash investigated by the department this year.
