Mike McCabe will serve as the Battle Ground Police Department’s interim police chief part-time through an agreement with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, where he is the chief administrative deputy.

McCabe’s appointment follows the Tuesday retirement of Mike Fort as chief. McCabe will fill the role while the agency searches for a full-time replacement. City officials interviewed five candidates for the position Dec. 8, and one person is in the background check process, according to a city news release.

McCabe has been with the sheriff’s office for 30 years and has served a variety of administrative and management roles, the city said.

In the statement, the city manager and sheriff celebrated the partnership and the leadership McCabe will provide.
