Prep basketball: Mark Morris beats Woodland to keep hold of first place in 2A GSHL

Braydon Olson scored a game-high 21 points as Mark Morris stayed atop the 2A Greater St. Helens League boys basketball standings with a 67-46 win over Woodland on Friday at Longview.

It was the first game in 11 days for the teams due to the icy weather.

Mark Morris (9-5, 8-1 2A GSHL) held Woodland (4-10, 2-7) to 15 first-half points on its was to a fourth straight win.

Lucas Logan scored 11 points and Brett Martynowicz had 10 for the Beavers.

Girls basketball

MARK MORRIS 55, WOODLAND 42 — Reese Johnston scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Monarchs to the 2A GSHL win at Woodland.

Natalie Mejia added 10 points and nine rebounds for Mark Morris (8-5, 6-4).

The Monarchs held Woodland to nine points in the first and second quarters.

“Kiki (Makaiwi) and Kamrie (Guizzotti) really wreaked havoc in our press defense to help cause turnovers that lead to scores for us,” Mark Morris coach Sean Atkins said.

Kennedy Bockert had 15 points, and Addi Stading 12 for the Beavers (6-9, 4-6).

KING’S WAY CHRISTIAN 52, CASTLE ROCK 29 — Bridget Quinn had a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds plus six assists as the Knights topped visiting Castle Rock in the 1A Trico League contest.

Hanna Erwin added 14 points and four rebounds, and Addison Bagley had 10 points and five rebounds for the Knights (10-4, 4-1).

Castle Rock (4-9, 1-3) was held to 10 points in the first half as King’s Way won for the fifth time in its last six games.

Sophia Buchanan led the Rockets in scoring with 10 points.
