Despite early start, Vancouver schools, teachers union still negotiating as end of contract approaches

Union president shares perspective on bargaining as final stretch nears

At the end of August, the Vancouver Education Association’s contract will expire with Vancouver Public Schools. Southwest Washington’s second-largest teachers union hopes to reach a deal before then.

Last year, tumultuous negotiations in Evergreen, Camas and Portland boiled over into weekslong strikes that delayed the start of school — and demonstrated the power of teachers unions.
