Letter: Don’t assist those here illegally

I was shocked when I read in The Columbian that some of our tax money is going to provide state medical assistance for illegal immigrants (“Washington expands health care for undocumented immigrants,” The Seattle Times, March 12).

When I was raising my daughter alone, I didn’t qualify for state assistance for medical care. I supposedly made too much money according to the state. I even made 50 cents over the cutoff for help in paying my NW Natural gas bill. But Washington leaders will give assistance to people who come here illegally?

People, they are here illegally. We have families and elderly who are homeless and hungry. The leaders of our state should be working on getting them off the street instead of providing care for the illegal immigrants. Texas and Florida had it right about putting them on a plane, except they should have flown them back home instead of to the other states. I’m all for giving heath care to the workers who come here to work in the fields and orchards, but not to those who sneak across our borders.
