A vehicle fire in the southbound lanes in Interstate 5 at Jantzen Beach brought morning commute to a halt Wednesday.

According to the Oregon Department of Transportation, a vehicle fire at Milepost 308 near Jantzen Beach forced the closure of the right lane about 6 a.m.

There was no word on injuries.

By 7 a.m., traffic was backed up to Northeast 78th Street in Hazel Dell, with snarls and slowing spilling into downtown Vancouver, and onto state Highway 14 west and Highway 500.

The agency warned drivers to expect delays of 20 minutes or more and to slow down for workers on the bridge.

A second crash on I-5 south just before the bridge blocked the left lane about 7:40 a.m., according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
