A Camas police officer suffered minor injuries after his patrol car was struck by another car Sunday night in the intersection of Northwest Lake Road and Parker Street.

Officer Casey Handley was traveling east on Lake Road and entered the intersection when another car coming from the opposite direction attempted to turn left onto Parker Street and struck Handley’s car, according to a police news release.

Both vehicles were extensively damaged by the collision and declared a total loss. Handley and the occupants of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene by the Camas-Washougal Fire Department. However, Handley was taken to a nearby hospital for further treatment and observation before being discharged, the news release said.

Camas Police Chief Tina Jones later met with Handley.

“It was frightening to learn of the collision last night involving one of our Camas PD officers and seeing the extent of the vehicular damage. I am grateful to the CRESA dispatchers, Camas-Washougal Fire (Department), Vancouver PD, Washougal PD, Washington State Patrol and our other Camas PD officers for responding quickly to assist,” Jones said in the news release. “Our team is wishing our officer a speedy recovery.”

The State Patrol was called to assist with the investigation and is the lead agency.
