Spring Back: River’s McCarthey became first three-time javelin champ

On May 27, 1983, Columbia River’s Tracy McCarthey became the first three-time state champion of the girls javelin. The feat would be repeated by Fort Vancouver’s Laurie Merlino (1985-87), Skyview’s Kara Patterson (2002-04) and Columbia River’s Anna Adamko (2009-11). McCarthey went on to star at Arizona State.
