Spring Back: River’s McCarthey became first three-time javelin champ

On May 27, 1983, Columbia River’s Tracy McCarthey became the first three-time state champion of the girls javelin. The feat would be repeated by Fort Vancouver’s Laurie Merlino (1985-87), Skyview’s Kara Patterson (2002-04) and Columbia River’s Anna Adamko (2009-11). McCarthey went on to star at Arizona State. But on May 28, 2010, the Camas and Columbia River baseball teams met in the Class 3A state semifinal played on the home field of the Seattle Mariners, then known as Safeco Field.
