ALBANY, Ore. (AP) — The Linn County, Ore., sheriff says his detectives have arrested a 27-year-old man in the theft of seven urns containing cremated human remains from the Odd Fellows Cemetery in the town of Lebanon.
Sheriff Tim Mueller says one urn was taken July 10 and the others on July 19. Jewelry and family mementos also were stolen.
Mueller says a gold-for-cash business called detectives when a man tried to sell what he calls suspicious gold.
David John Slack of Sweet Home was arrested last weekend for investigation of abuse of a corpse, theft, criminal mischief and criminal trespass. Slack was already in the Linn County Jail on unrelated charges.
Detectives have located three urns and their remains as well as some jewelry. They are still looking for the other four urns.
