Here comes the big chill and a slick commute is likely this morning.

Arctic air began moving into Clark County on Monday night from the Puget Sound area, officials said. Clark County and Portland ended up with less snow than forecast Monday night, but experts agree we’re in for icy roads this morning.

Low temperatures this morning were expected in the low 20s, and even colder tonight, said Tyree Wilde, warning coordination meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Portland. He said high temperatures will hit the 30s today.

This area may not get above freezing today as we move into a cold, dry period through Thanksgiving night, when rain is expected, Miles Higa, a meteorologist with the NWS, said Monday night.

That could mean some afternoon sun.

Weather watchers expect colder conditions on Wednesday, with overnight lows of 15 to 19 degrees and a high of 35 degrees.

The temperature could drop close to single digits in east Clark County, Wilde said, although it should be dry.

Thanksgiving Day should be dry, with morning lows of 28 to 30 and highs in the mid-40s, and rain that night.

Expect showers Friday.
