Republican Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler ran for election touting fiscal sanity, and won. She’s done a good job so far in Congress, doing what the voters sent her there to do.
Reading the Aug. 7 story, “Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler carves niche in debt fight,” it is unfortunate that liberal Democratic state Rep. Jim Moeller now believes she should change her political views, to “weave a centrist view on a lot of things,” in order to accommodate as many voters as possible. This is exactly the problem in America: politicians like Moeller who get elected, then immediately change their stance on issues to try and please as many constituents as possible.
Hopefully, there will be more lawmakers like Herrera Beutler who do what they said they would do when running, and fewer like Moeller who believe in perpetually testing the political winds for their own benefit.
