SEATTLE – (AP) — The former head of the Seattle FBI office is supporting a state initiative that would legalize marijuana.

Charles Mandigo announced his endorsement of Initiative 502 in a statement issued Monday by backers of the measure. He is joined by former U.S. Attorneys for Western Washington John McKay and Kate Pflaumer in speaking out for the initiative. If passed by voters it would legalize the sale of marijuana to adults 21 and older.

Mandigo says legalization would free law enforcement to pursue more worthwhile aims.

Supporters of the legalization initiative plan to submit it to the secretary of state in December.
