How has the economy affected your business: Despite the difficult economic climate, Sigma has managed to grow dramatically during the past three years. Doug Hill, vice president of operations, said the key to success has been recognizing opportunities and using them as a springboard for growth in new markets, and development of capabilities.
Greatest challenge: Hill said the greatest challenge in running the business is to respond quickly to a changing world. You have to be prepared to do the work that is available or go to where the work is. “Being quick and adaptable seemed much easier with a small organization; we have managed to carry that forward as the company has grown,” he said. “To that end, we have changed the way we do business by working at customers’ sites when needed, opening an operation in Asia, and working with customers worldwide.”
What’s ahead: Juggling expansion with service will be the company’s focus for the next six to eight months and beyond, Hill said.
