3 Notre Dame backs share the ball like brothers

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Notre Dame has two No. 1 running backs and a third back coach Brian Kelly wants to get the ball more often.

It may sound like a recipe for disaster, but so far it’s a mix that is working just fine for the fifth-ranked Fighting Irish (6-0), who are on pace to have their best season rushing in 11 years behind the play of Cierre Wood, Theo Riddick and George Atkinson III.

All three want the ball more often, but they also understand the need to share. They say they get along like brothers, which means they are constantly pulling pranks and making fun of one another.

Notre Dame plays at home Saturday against Brigham Young (4-3), which is ranked third in the country in rush defense.
