Kehres passes Bryant for 4th on victory list

WESTERVILLE, Ohio (AP) — Mount Union coach Larry Kehres passed Bear Bryant for fourth place on college football’s career victory list with 324, leading the NCAA Division III powerhouse to a 51-0 victory over Otterbein on Saturday.

Kehres is 324-24-3 in 27 seasons, all at Mount Union. Bryant won 323 games at Alabama, Maryland, Kentucky and Texas A&M.

Only three college coaches have won more games: John Gagliardi (Carroll, St. John’s of Minnesota) with 487, Eddie Robinson (Grambling State) with 408 and Bobby Bowden with 377 (Samford, West Virginia, Florida State).

Kehres’ teams have won 10 of the last 18 Division III national titles and 23 Ohio Conference championships, including the last 20.

Mount Union 7-0, 6-0) matched an NCAA record with its sixth consecutive shutout, and ran its regular-season winning streak to 70.
