The Evergreen Plainsmen ran for more than 300 yards, with three players sharing most of the load, in a 28-14 win over the Prairie Falcons on Friday at McKenzie Stadium.

Jamaree Jones pounded his way to 135 yards, and Justice Murphy had 96 yards and two touchdowns for the Plainsmen (2-1), who led 21-0 at halftime.

Anthony Thomas out-fought Prairie defenders for two critical receptions, including a 24-yard touchdown pass from Kobey Eaton that opened the scoring.

Justin Straup ran for a 25-yard score, and Murphy capped a 88-yard drive with a 6-yard scoring run 22 seconds before halftime.

Jason Bracken and Colton Prestwich scored the Prairie touchdowns, but the Falcons (1-2) were never closer than two touchdowns after Straup scored on the fourth play of the second quarter.

Thomas opened the scoring by wrestling for possession in the end zone as Evergreen went 66 yards on six plays with its first possession of the game.

The Plainsmen needed only one play to double their lead after recovering a Prairie fumble at the Falcon 25. Straup ran 25-yards on the next play.

The next touchdown took more work. The Plansmen moved 88 yards on 10 plays to close the half ahead 21-0. Thomas made a leaping grab at the 6-yard line, a 17-yard reception that was followed by Murphy’s run.

Evergreen’s final scoring march took almost nine minutes and covered 90 yards. A running-into the punter penalty after the Evergreen punter fumbled the snap helped sustain that drive at midfield.
