Weather Eye: Could we make it through July without rain? It’s a possibility

All clear on the western front, so to speak. A very nice forecast all week with no rain in sight. There is a slight chance — but very slight — that a thunderstorm could drift over from the Cascades this evening, but most likely to our north.

It will be hot today, around 90 degrees or so, and then in the 80s the rest of the week, with the warmest couple of days Thursday and Friday.

Temperatures at 4 p.m. Monday were in the mid- to upper 80s around Clark County. An interesting note, at Forks it was 86 degrees with a northeast wind while Hoquiam had 68 degrees with a southwest wind. We will see a little more offshore wind today so highs at the coast will be 75 to 80 degrees.

In contrast at 4 p.m. Monday along the Oregon Coast, it was 71 degrees at Astoria while Newport and Brookings were a chilly 59 degrees. I always carry my sweatshirt when I head to the beach because you never know. Even if it is in the 70s and 80s, the wind can switch and that ocean air can chill things quickly. But a great week to head for the beach if you can.

I don’t really see any end to the summer weather, with no rain on the horizon, so we could escape the month of July without a drop in the rain bucket. The best chance would be if a thunderstorm drifted off the Cascades.

Be careful with fire outdoors, things are drying out quickly. I took a drive around the Mount Hood Loop over the weekend and one could easily see things are getting very dry.

See you on a warm Thursday!
