SWAT training
A SWAT training exercise at Northeast 149th Street and 10th Avenue in the North Salmon Creek neighborhood drew the attention of passers-by.
Specialized equipment and a number of officers in full tactical gear were at the scene, while police vehicles crowded the driveways of two properties. Police tape surrounded the area.
The houses used for the training — 903 and 911 N.E. 149th St. — are owned by Clark County Public Works. The county acquired them to install stormwater treatments as part of the Northeast 10th Avenue improvement project, said Jeff Mize, department spokesman.
The Columbian received several calls inquiring about the activity, as did Clark Regional Emergency Services Agency, which provides 911 dispatch service.
One caller complained that the neighborhood had not been warned, and people feared that a serious crime had occurred.
A similar training is scheduled Wednesday afternoon in the same spot.
