ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Kendall Williams scored 28 points and was a school-record 16-of-16 on free throws, and Alex Kirk added 21 points with 11 rebounds as New Mexico beat San Diego 73-66 Saturday.
The Lobos (5-1) erased a 12-point deficit in the first half, closing with a 17-3 run fueled by nine points from Williams and eight from Kirk.
San Diego (7-2) led by as much as seven in the second half, but New Mexico climbed back to take a 61-58 lead on a Cleveland Thomas 3-pointer.
Johnny Dee answered with a 3-pointer to tie the game with 2:07 remaining, but Williams sank eight free throws and had a dunk down the stretch to keep New Mexico on top.
