Vladimir Kovalev, 29, of Vancouver was in critical condition at a local hospital Sunday night with injuries suffered in an early Saturday morning ATV accident on Larch Mountain in the Yacolt Burn State Forest.

Clark County sheriff’s Sgt. Dennis Pritchard said Kovalev was riding a Yamaha Raptor 700 about 3:35 a.m. Saturday when he went off the L1510 Road on Department of Natural Resources land.

Pritchard said Kovalev was riding with a friend who called 911.

He was transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center by North Country EMS. He remained there Sunday night.

The sheriff’s office, Fire District 3 and East County Fire & Rescue also responded to the accident.

Pritchard said alcohol might have played a role in the mishap.

He also said no crime was committed and there will not be an investigation.

Larch Mountain is the tallest peak in the area at 3,496 feet. It is about five miles east of Hockinson.
