The sweep was conducted by three teams of officers from the Vancouver Police Department’s East and West Neighborhood Response Teams, neighborhood police officers, Vancouver K-9 and the Washington State Department of Corrections, according to a VPD bulletin issued Saturday afternoon.

The sweep targeted people with “no bail” warrants in connection with cases involving felony property crimes, misdemeanor property crimes if the target had multiple warrants, and DOC warrants, regardless of the original charge, the bulletin said.

“Warrant sweeps which focus on repeat offenders, are an important component to improve community safety and increase community livability in Vancouver,” the bulletin said.

The sweep initially focused on 60 specific individuals who met were considered likely to re-offend while on their warrant status, or were persons of interest for ongoing investigations, according to the bulletin.

It said a number of others were taken into custody during the sweep over misdemeanor warrants, No Contact Order violations, other DOC violations, or possession of controlled substances.

The bulletin said the sweep resulted in the arrest of 25 people, the clearing 29 felony and misdemeanor warrants and the filing of 8 new charges. There were also two Department of Corrections holds for DOC violations and one vehicle seized pending a search warrant for controlled substances.
