HILLSBORO, Ore. — Trevor Jasinsky just wanted to contribute in the Merritt Truax Memorial Northwest Shootout.

Instead, he was named the game’s most valuable player.

Jasinsky, a senior from Camas, went 8 for 11 from the floor, including 4 for 4 from 3-point range, and scored 22 points, leading Washington’s high school all stars to a 109-108 victory over Oregon. The game featured 10 of the best seniors from each state.

“Oh my God it’s unbelievable,” said Jasinsky, who is headed to Western Washington University in the fall. “Of all the stuff that I’ve gone through in my basketball career, this is a moment. I’m just glad it all worked out.”

Union’s Riley Hawken scored six points, including four during crunch time as Washington was trying to hold off an Oregon comeback.

“It was awesome. I love the guys. I love the coaches,” he said. “It was really cool to start, three days ago, with a new team and see what we could do together.”

Hawken said he knew his job was not to be a big-time scorer.

“I was the energy, hustle, and play-physical guy,” Hawken said. “I was told, ‘Just play mean.’ I did a pretty good job of that.”

Jasinsky did a little bit of everything. He also had six rebounds, four assists, and had two dunks for Washington. After the game, children asked for his autograph.

The MVP of the Northwest Shootout. That has quite a ring to it for Jasinsky.

“If you look back at all of the people who have played in this game, it’s crazy. NBA players. Huge Division I players. It’s an honor just to play in this game,” he said.

Jasinsky was part of the key stretch of the game that extended Washington to a nine-point lead. He had a dunk and a 3-pointer, plus a rebound and long outlet pass to start another fast break, making it 91-82.

Hawken would end up scoring the 100th point of the game for Washington and was true on two free throws with 1:51 left, giving Washington a 104-98 lead.

Jazz Johnson of Lake Oswego led all scorers with 35 points.

In the girls game earlier, Washington crushed Oregon 100-61. Kourtney Eaton of Mark Morris had 18 points. Karley Eaton added seven points. There were no players from Clark County in the girls game.
