Prep roundup: B.G. softball moves into tie for first place

Tigers beat Union 11-5 to catch Camas atop standings

Parker Boyd struck out 14 and Haley Buck belted a home run as the Battle Ground softball team moved into a first-place tie in the 4A Greater St. Helens League with an 11-5 win over Union on Thursday.

The win improved to the Tigers to 5-1 in league, knotted with Camas atop the 4A GSHL.

Boyd went the distance, giving up five runs with no walks and 14 strikeouts. Buck went 2 for 4 with a double, homer and two RBI. Danielle Joli went 3 for 4 with a double, two runs and an RBI.

Stars of the day

• Nick Somboun, Heritage baseball, went 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored from the lead-off position in Heritage’s 7-3 non-league win over Columbia River.

• Josh Balsiger, Seton Catholic soccer, scored both goals in a 2-1 win over King’s Way Christian.

• Jordan Vazquez, La Center soccer, had a goal and an assist in a 4-1 win over Castle Rock.

• Abby England, La Center softball, struck out eight batters, hit a three-run home run and scored three times in the Wildcats’ 19-6 non-league win over Ridgefield.

• Sam Rice, Ridgefield softball, was 2 for 3 with a triple and a home run in a 19-6 non-league loss to La Center.

• Liam Knoeppel, Ridgefield soccer, scored two goals and had an assist in the Spudders 4-2 win over R.A. Long.
