Arson investigators are asking for the public’s help in gathering information on a blaze that heavily damaged an under-construction duplex Tuesday night in east Vancouver.

Vancouver Fire Marshal Heidi Scarpelli said she spent most of the day Wednesday at the scene of the fire, which was reported at about 7:15 p.m. Tuesday at 10918 N.E. 44th St.

One of the units was a total loss while the other unit was severely damage, she said. Scarpelli said the fire caused an estimated $350,000 in damage to the structure.

Scarpelli said investigators are conducting interviews and collecting video footage.

The structure did not have any power or natural gas hooked up to it, so the fire appears to be human-caused, Scarpelli said. The blaze is under investigation by the Vancouver Arson Team, which is a joint effort by the Vancouver Police Department and the Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Office.

Anyone who saw a person in the area prior to the fire is asked to call the fire marshal’s office at 360-487-7212.
