Police searched Sunday for a man suspected of stealing a car in Portland and allegedly rear-ending and stealing a second car in Vancouver.

The vehicle crash occurred at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Northeast 104th Avenue and 14th Street in Vancouver. A car was stopped at the intersection when the suspect rear-ended it with his stolen car, according to a news release from the Vancouver Police Department.

Both drivers got out of their cars after the crash, and that’s when the suspect jumped behind the wheel of the car he hit and sped away, police said.

While the suspect fled, he struck a curb on Northeast Burton Road and crashed. He then took off eastbound on foot along Northeast Fourth Plain Boulevard, police said. Police searched the area with a K-9 unit but could not track the suspect because there was heavy foot and vehicle traffic in the area.

The suspect was described to police as a white man in his 30s with a thin build, a “scraggly” beard and brown hair, according to the news release.
