The Washougal Association of Educators has voted to join teachers in Evergreen Public Schools in a one-day walkout on May 13.

The district must extend the school year by one day to meet the required 180 school days. With the adjustment, students’ last day of school will be June 16.Frank Zahn, union president, said the action is not directed against the school board, staff, students or district patrons, but to protest a lack of state legislative progress in adequately funding schools.

Washougal students who attend the Southwest Washington Childcare Consortium Centers should be taken to the SWCCC at Riverview Elementary, 12601 S.E. Riverridge Drive in Vancouver.

A list of specific cancellations will be available on each school’s website.
