Letter: Faith in logic lacking

The Columbian
Published: May 14, 2015, 5:00pm

I’m responding to Roy G. Wilson’s May 10 letter, “Show me evidence,” which implied that only those who operate from a logical viewpoint should share their opinions, rather than those who are spirit-minded or function in faith. Wilson’s view is that we ought to only accept how life works from credible researchers and replicable results. Yet, these same people he deems to be valid and reliable do not come from a purely unbiased viewpoint; they are not infallible. In my view, one cannot logically wholly be confident that these “credible researchers” have drawn the right conclusions from the cherry-picked data they choose to include.

The world we live in is steeped in complexity and mysteries that make life unbelievable, yet here we are. In addition, it is sustained and provided with critical material that goes far beyond mere survival for its inhabitants, and who has a handle on love or time?

A life lived by faith is more than logical — it’s reasonable. It is far grander than those who operate in a realm of logic, that is based in mere men who think they can figure life out in a controlled setting with replicable results. How logical is that?
