A man was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly robbed a Chase bank branch near the Westfield Vancouver mall and then disappeared into the shopping center, according to police.

The bank, at 8203 N.E. Vancouver Mall Drive, reported the robbery at 1:36 p.m. The Vancouver Police Department said a man entered the bank, implied that he had a weapon, demanded money and fled the bank with the cash.

Responding officers then received information that the man might have entered the mall, police said. Officers searched the mall and took a man into custody inside one of the mall’s stores around 2:30 p.m.

The suspect, Ted W. Washington III, 20, was booked on suspicion of first-degree robbery, according to police.

No one was hurt during the ordeal, the police said.

Vancouver police spokeswoman Kim Kapp said the mall remained open during the search.
