Prep roundup: Union girls claim Hillsboro meet

Cassie McKinney, Serena Smith and Allie Connell finished among the top seven to help the Union girls cross country team to the win at the Meriwether National Cross Country Classic in Hillsboro, Ore., on Friday.

Union scored 62 points to top 15 teams. Heritage placed 11th.

McKinney was fourth on the 5,000-meter course in 19 minutes, 28.2 seconds. Smith was fifth and Connell seventh.

The Union boys were third out of 18 teams and Heritage was seventh.

Ryan Cibart of Heritage was seventh overall in 16:26.2.

Miguel De La Melena and Tristan Robins were 12th and 13th for Union.

Stars of the day

Chase Dodge, Skyview golf, shot a 1-under-par 33 at Fariway Village for medalist honors in a 142-170 team win over Mountain View.

Union boys tennis, capped a solid week by defeating Skyview 5-1 and is now the only undefeated 4A GSHL team in league play. The Titans beat Mountain View on a tiebreaker on Wednesday.
