Weather Eye: Pattern all too familiar, so we’ll reload, repeat forecast this week

Our weather appears stuck in a pattern: a cold trough of low pressure, then building high pressure for warming — so we will reload and repeat the forecast. Showers wane today. On Wednesday, high pressure builds in, with highs Thursday and Friday above normal. Maybe we will reach 90 degrees for the first time this month?

After the short heat wave, clouds, cool and maybe showers again late in the weekend into early next week. It was too bad it rained Monday at the fair. Amounts were light but sent many running for cover.

At 2 p.m. Monday, Vancouver was reporting 62 degrees and light rain. That is some 20 degrees below average for the date. And this is August?

Rainfall in Vancouver as of 4 p.m. Monday was 0.12 inch, but the foothills of the coast range and Cascades had about a quarter-inch in places.

Skies will be clear late in the week, and coupled with a warm night will make watching the Perseid meteors most pleasurable. As always, the farther away from the city lights, the better the viewing. I remember lying in chaise lounge chairs after midnight watching the meteor showers years ago with my young children. Makes for a great family tradition. I’m sure by then the crickets will be chirping along.

Five years ago today, I wrote: “Sweet Serendipity. All we need weather-wise is a little cloudiness to keep the scorching heat away, a little sunshine to brighten the day and of course pleasant temperatures. And so goes our forecast the next several days. We see some clouds Tuesday but we are good to go after that.”

I guess our summers play a pleasant tune, for the most part. A little bit of something for everyone.
