Six teenage boys face charges after, police say, they assaulted two pedestrians in separate incidents last week.

The first assault was reported at about 10:40 p.m. on Aug. 22 near Northeast Fourth Plain Boulevard and Stapleton Road. Officers responding to the area found Doyce Grahm, 44, with a fractured eye socket, lacerations on his head and a concussion that made him lose consciousness, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Clark County juvenile court.

Grahm told officers that the boys hit and kicked him over and over, and pointed a realistic-looking firearm at him, though the gun later was determined to be a black BB gun, court records said. Officers searched the area, but could not find anyone matching the suspects’ descriptions.

Less than two hours later, police responded to another assault report near the entrance to the Thunderbird Village Apartments, 4601 E. 18th St., less than a mile away from the first attack, according to the Vancouver Police Department. James Johns, 44, said he had been confronted by a group of teens, who hit him in the head and body numerous times, according to court documents.

Police searched the area for the suspects, but could not find them.

Johns suffered a fractured vertebra, acute injury to a kidney, respiratory failure and a concussion with loss of consciousness, according to the affidavit. Police said Tuesday that Johns had been released from the hospital.

Both men also had their cellphones stolen, according to court documents.

On Friday, Vancouver police detectives interviewed and arrested five Vancouver teens, identified in court records as: Malichi E. Thomas, 13; Dyami E. Cortez, 14; Tyree R. Robins, 14; Christopher L. Portis, 15; and Joshua Haruo, 15.

All face charges of first-degree robbery, first-degree assault and second-degree assault. All except Cortez also face two counts of criminal mischief, according to court records.

Officers arrested a sixth boy, 17, Tuesday on suspicion of two counts of first-degree robbery, one count each of first- and second-degree assault, and two counts of criminal mischief. His name was not released by police.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
