Beyonce Bea was not going to be stopped.

Two days after her grandfather Richard Bea died of a stroke, the Washougal sophomore had one of her best games in a 63-40 win over R.A. Long.

Bea had 28 points and 17 rebounds as the Panthers opened 2A Greater St. Helens League play win a home win.

“I told her ‘nobody is going to stop you tonight and I’m not taking you out,” Washougal coach Brian Oberg said.

Oberg had Bea play closer to the basket than she had in previous games. The 5-foot-11 forward responded with a huge game in front of several family members. Oberg said Richard Bea was well-known around the Washougal basketball program.

“To see her have that kind of game after what she’s been through this week was very special,” Oberg said.

Mason Oberg had 16 points, including four 3-pointers. Toryi Midland had six rebounds, five assists, four steals and four blocks for Washougal (3-3, 1-0).
