Six people were displaced early Sunday morning by a fire in an east Vancouver duplex.

Vancouver Fire Department firefighters were dispatched to the building, at 604 Southeast Olympia Drive, at about 3:15 a.m., according to emergency dispatch records. The unintentional fire started in a living room of one of the 1,200-square-foot units after an extension cord failed, Vancouver Fire Marshal Heidi Scarpelli said.

Nobody was injured, she said.

The fire caused an estimated $225,000 in damage to the building and residents’ belongings, Scarpelli said. She didn’t know if the fire spread to the other unit in the duplex.

After the fire was extinguished, the American Red Cross assisted the home’s residents by providing temporary lodging and information about recovery services. Four adults, two children and one pet were displaced, the Red Cross said in a press release.

The building is owned by Nathan and Rachel Drake, who have a different mailing address than the duplex, according to Clark County property records.
