Letter: Mental health help available

By Ann Donnelly, Vancouver
Published: May 11, 2016, 6:00am

I read Carleen Stephens’ May 7 letter, “Few offer solutions to mentally ill,” about a man suffering from schizophrenia who lives under terrible conditions now that his caretaker mother has passed away.

I hope she will contact the National Alliance on Mental Illness SW Washington. We will evaluate this case and come up with a plan that may take time to implement and provide help from various sources. We cannot wave a magic wand, sadly, but we are experts in the challenges she is describing.

NAMI SW WA is at the former Tower Mall/Town Plaza, 5411 E. Mill Plain, Suite 4, Vancouver; by phone at 360-695-2823; and online at www.namiswwa.org. Others who know of a case like this should let us know. We are the forefront of a new, better way to address mental illness, along with many other agencies here.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
