LA GRANDE, Ore. — Authorities say a La Grande woman fabricated a story about being mugged and stabbed on Owsley Canyon Road in Union County.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Bill Miller says 34-year-old Michelle Cadwell has been cited for misuse of 911 and might be charged with filing a false police report.

The (La Grande) Observer reports that Cadwell told investigators two weeks ago she was approached by two men in a Dodge Neon. They asked for money and stabbed her when they learned she had none.

The woman was treated at Grande Ronde Hospital for superficial stab wounds to her lower torso.

Miller says the woman’s story didn’t add up. He notes that stranger-on-stranger muggings happen far less frequently than the general public believes.
