Letter: Trump outrage goes too far

By Jerry Rogers, Vancouver

Some liberals hate President Trump so much that they will submit fake news to the editor of The Columbian to condemn Trump for things he didn’t do, as Carl S. Scheuffele did on April 19 (“Our readers’ views: Trump should be impeached”).

“He flushes Meals on Wheels down the tube.” Meals on Wheels is not a federal program and the amount proposed to be cut from the federal budget is a relatively small amount that mostly goes to administration costs. Its local groups do not directly receive federal funding.

“He doesn’t care what happens in Syria.” Trump has demonstrated his concern for the Syrian people.

“Also, he gave health insurance companies the go ahead to eliminate 90 percent of what they used to cover.” It’s my understanding Obamacare is still the insurance of the land and the tax cut for insurance companies is only a proposal.

Also, I can’t find any evidence that Trump spent a week in Putin’s private lodge; however, Trump did revise his comments that he never met Putin and confirmed he met him on the “60 Minutes” program.

“He should be impeached.” None of these accusations come close to “treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors” as required in the Constitution.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
