The Camas girls basketball team gave it their best against a bigger, stronger Kentridge team.

But in the end Kentridge’s size was too much as Camas fell 64-50 in a 4A bi-district semifinal game.

“We made some mistakes at the end of the first half that led to some layins for them, which helped them lead by 12 at halftime,” Camas assistant coach Randy Rice said. “But we hit three 3s to open the second half and we eventually got their lead down to two in the third quarter. I think they got a little nervous. But in the end, their two bigs — they go 6-4 and 6-2 — were just too much.”

Jordyn Jenkins and JaQuaya Miller had 22 points each for Kentridge, which attemted 30 free throws to Camas’ one.

Kentridge also pulled down 21 offensive rebounds. Camas’ league MVP Courtney Clemmer got into early foul trouble, sending her to the bench.

“But we had some younger players come in and step up,” Rice said. “Marianna Payne hung right with them.”

Payne led Camas with 15 points, and Haley Hanson added 14.

Camas will face Kentlake for third-place on Saturday in a game that could be pivotal for improving the Papermakers’ RPI standings.
