A 70-year-old man accidentally crashed his sedan backwards into his east Vancouver apartment Monday afternoon after his foot got stuck between the gas pedal and the brake.

The crash happened just before 2 p.m., as the man was attempting to back up his 1994 Saturn sedan in the parking lot of the King’s Gate Apartment Complex, 3707 N.E. 18th St., said Vancouver firefighter-spokesman Chris Moen.

That’s when his foot got caught between the pedals. The sedan circled before backing into his unit.

The Saturn sustained $4,000 in damage and the apartment unit suffered $15,000 in damage.

The man wasn’t hurt, Moen said. But “he was upset and it injured his pride.”
