SAN DIEGO (AP) — Trevor Gretzky, son of hockey great Wayne Gretzky, has committed to play baseball at San Diego State.

He is a first baseman who hit .341 with two home runs and 33 RBIs last spring at Westlake Village Oaks Christian High.

The early signing period is Nov. 10-17.

San Diego State’s coach is Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn. Gwynn revealed last week that he has cancer in a salivary gland.

Gwynn plans to continue coaching at his alma mater after undergoing radiation and chemotherapy.
