BALTIMORE (AP) — Tony Gallo scored 15 points and Coppin State took advantage of Rio Grande’s miscues in a 53-50 win on Monday night.

The Eagles (3-4) scored 35 points off 26 Rio Grande turnovers and outscored the RedStorm, of the NAIA, 8-0 on the fastbreak.

Coppin State shot just 25 percent from the field (9 of 36) in the first half, but improved to 41.7 percent shooting (10 of 24) in the second.

The Eagles led 53-43 with 3:03 remaining, and Rio Grande scored the next seven points to make it 53-50 on Jermaine Wamack’s 3-pointer with 39 seconds left.

Michael Murray then missed two free throws for Coppin State, giving the RedStorm a chance to win it, but Brad Cubbie’s desperation 3 was blocked by Michael Harper as time expired.

Turrell Morris pulled down 21 boards for Rio Grande, which outrebounded the Eagles 49-30.
