Lemon Splendor wins the Big A’s Swirlaway Stakes

NEW YORK (AP) — Lemon Splendor beat Proud and Charming by 334 lengths in the $75,000 Swirlaway Stakes for New York bred 2-year-old fillies on Thursday at Aqueduct.

After taking charge in midstretch, Lemon Splendor went on to her second win in three starts for trainer George Weaver. Cornelio Velasquez was aboard as she ran the one mile, 70 yards in 1:44.96.

Lemon Splendor paid $12, $4.60 and $2.80. Proud and Charming returned $5.70 and $3.40 while Double Mint, the 4-5 favorite, paid $2.30 to show.
